Dr. Richard T. Schaefer received a B.A. in sociology from Northwestern University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago. Richard became a professor of sociology and now teaches at DePaul University in Chicago. In 2004, Dr. Schaefer was named to the Vincent DePaul professorship in recognition of his undergraduate teaching and scholarship. He has taught introductory sociology for more than thirty-five years to students in adult education programs, colleges, universities, nursing programs, and even a maximum-security prison. Richard is the author of numerous sociology books; his book reviews and articles have appeared in many journals, including the American Journal of Sociology, Contemporary Sociology, Sociology and Social Research, Phylon: A Review of Race and Culture, Sociological Quarterly, and Teaching Sociology.

Schaefer’s Sociology: A Brief Introduction, 7th Canadian Edition is designed to assist students in grasping the complexities of today’s social world. This updated seventh edition provides a Canadian viewpoint while also considering a wider global view, which is essential for understanding various social situations. By prompting students to critically assess their own roles and the roles of others in society, it cultivates a deeper understanding of social frameworks and interactions. In the end, it enables students to interact thoughtfully with the world around them.

The newest 7th edition has been fully revised to specifically suit Canadian students. Students will discover engaging content that emphasizes relevant social topics, varied examples, and current Canadian statistics, studies, and information. This resource is excellent for introductory sociology courses at the degree and diploma levels, as well as for anyone eager to explore the study of how societies function.
