Richard A. Dunlap

Dr. Richard A. Dunlap is a research professor at Dalhousie University's Department of Physics and Atmospheric Science. He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Physics in 1974, Dartmouth College with an A.M. in Physics in 1976, and Clark University with a Ph.D. in Physics in 1978. Critical phenomena, amorphous materials, quasicrystals, hydrogen storage, magnetic materials, superconductivity, and materials for enhanced rechargeable batteries have all piqued his attention throughout the years.

Professor Dunlap has been a member of the Dalhousie University faculty since 1981. He was the Killam Research Professor of Physics from 2001 to 2006, and the Director of the Dalhousie University Institute for Research in Materials from 2009 to 2015. EXPERIMENTAL PHYSICS: MODERN METHODS, THE GOLDEN RATIO AND FIBONACCI NUMBERS, and AN INTRODUCTION TO THE PHYSICS OF NUCLEI AND PARTICLES are Professor Dunlap's other textbooks.

Renewable Energy, Combined Edition, (PDF) begins with a evaluate of our previous dependence on fossil fuels as our key power supply and our future wants to alter how our power is produced and utilized as a result of decreasing sources and environmental affect. Synthesis Lectures on Renewable Energy Technologies The first quantity offers the foremost choices for carbon-free power together with hydroelectric and photo voltaic power for each thermal functions and the manufacturing of wind power, electrical energy, and biofuels as a alternative within the transportation business. Yet, all of those choices won’t work on a big scale with out correct power storage, which is the topic of the second and third volumes. The second quantity research the attainable strategies of storing power within the type of thermal or mechanical power. Mechanical strategies embody those who make use of gravitational potential power and the storage of power by compressing air or by storing as rotational power in a flywheel. Sensible warmth storage is mentioned when it comes to its functions to residential heating, photo voltaic ponds, group-based mostly storage, and thermal storage for grid-built-in power techniques. The third quantity research varied strategies of power storage that make use of electrochemical reactions, electrical and magnetic fields, and chemical reactions. It summaries a number of varieties of batteries along with supercapacitors, pseudo-capacitors, and hybrid capacitors. It ends with methods in chemical power storage and the usage of hydrogen, methanol, methane, and ammonia as power carriers. Renewable Energy Volume 1, Volume 2 and Volume 3 included.
