Christian Iliadis

Dr. Christian Iliadis is Professor of Physics & Astronomy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a nuclear astrophysicist at the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory. Dr. Iliadis received the prestigious University of North Carolina Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2014.

The book Nuclear Physics of Stars – 2nd, Revised and Enlarged Edition explains how the process of synthesizing most elements takes place through thermonuclear reactions in stars. These newly formed elements are then released into the interstellar medium over time. The interstellar medium then incorporates it into a new generation of stars, planets, and eventually life forms that emerge on planets.

The energy that life depends on comes from nuclear reactions that happen at the center of the Sun. The subject of nuclear astrophysics, which this book covers in detail, includes the synthesis of the elements, and nuclear energy production in stars. The book provides detailed explanations on nuclear structure and reactions, experimental methods, thermonuclear reaction rates, and nucleosynthesis.

The ebook serves as a textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, complete with worked examples and end-of-chapter exercises. It is also a valuable reference resource for researchers working in the field of nuclear astrophysics. The topics covered in the book are presented in an organized and coherent manner, allowing readers to grasp the interconnections between them intuitively.
