Robert Resnick

Professor Robert Resnick (Late – January 29, 2014) was a physics teacher and author of many best-selling physics textbooks.

He completed his high school education at Baltimore City College in 1939. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1943, followed by a Ph.D. in physics in 1949, both from Johns Hopkins University. From 1949 to 1956, he served on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh, where he met Dr. David Halliday, with whom he co-authored the highly acclaimed textbook that gained widespread readership. He later joined Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a professor and led the interdisciplinary science curriculum for 15 years. During his tenure at RPI, Resnik wrote or co-authored seven influential textbooks covering quantum physics, relativity, and general physics, which have been translated into over 47 languages. It is estimated that more than 11 million students have utilized his textbooks. Now in its 10th edition, presented in a comprehensive 5-volume set revised by Dr. Jearl Walker, "Fundamentals of Physics" remains highly esteemed in the academic community.
