Troy Day

Dr. Troy Day received his M.S. in biology from the University of British Columbia and his Ph.D. in mathematics from Queen's University. His first academic position was at the University of Toronto, before being recruited back to Queen's University as a Canada Research Chair in Mathematical Biology. Dr. Troy is currently a Professor of Maths and Stats and a Professor of Biology. His research group works in areas ranging from applied mathematics to experimental biology. Troy Day is also coauthor of the widely used ebook A Biologist'S Guide To Mathematical Modeling, published by Princeton University Press in 2007.

Biocalculus: Calculus, Probability, And Statistics For The Life Sciences is an e-textbook that aims to relate calculus to the realm of biology in a way that is rigorous yet accessible. It presents calculus concepts with examples drawn from various fields of biology such as pharmacology, epidemiology, medicine, mechanics, genetics, physiology, and evolution. The book ensures that all mathematical applications are genuine and provides references to primary biological literature to enable instructors and students to explore the applications more deeply. While the focus is on the interface between math and the life sciences, the logical structure of the book is driven by mathematical material. By the end of the book, most students will have acquired a solid understanding of mathematics, the importance of mathematical arguments, and the relevance of math concepts and techniques in the life sciences. P.S. We also offer additional resources such as the Biocalculus: Calculus, Probability, And Statistics For The Life Sciences test bank, instructor manual, and more.
