About The Author

Markus Keller

The Science of Grapevines: Anatomy and Physiology 2nd edition (PDF) is a guide to understanding the grapevine’s physical structure, its various organs, and their interactions with the environment. The book starts with a brief overview of the plant morphology, botanical classification, and anatomy, and growth cycles of grapevines. It covers basic concepts in growth and development, photosynthesis, water relations, mineral uptake, respiration, utilization, and carbon partitioning, which are used to understand plant-environment interactions, including yield formation, canopy dynamics, and fruit composition. The book also introduces stress physiology, including water stress, extreme temperatures, nutrient deficiency, excess, and the impact, and response to other organisms.

The ebook is based on the author’s years of teaching grapevine anatomy, research experience with grapevines, and practical experience growing grapes.

The The Science of Grapevines 2e, has been updated with new research results, including the latest research on implementing drip irrigation to maximize sugar accumulation within grapes, the effect of drought stress on grapevine’s hydraulic system, and options for optimum plant maintenance in drought conditions. It also includes information on the recently discovered plant hormone – strigolactones – and their contribution of apical dominance that has suddenly outdated dogma on apical dominance control.

The second edition includes chapter summaries and has broken Chapter 7 into “Environmental Constraints and Stress Physiology” and Chapter 8 into “Living with Other Organisms” to better reflect specific concepts. It also includes key literature references missed in the first edition, as well as references to research completed since the first publication. A newer edition is also available.

Please note, this only includes the eBook The Science of Grapevines 2nd edition in PDF format, and doesn’t include any codes.
