The authors of this concise edition of Durand and Barlow’s Essentials of Abnormal Psychology 6th Edition (PDF) effectively utilize a wide array of materials to elucidate abnormal psychology through their pioneering integrative approach – the most contemporary and scientifically sound method for studying the subject. Through this integrative approach, students come to understand that psychological disorders are seldom caused by a single factor, but rather arise from the interplay of various factors: biological, psychological, cultural, social, familial, and even political. The conversational writing style, consistent pedagogy, and authentic case studies – 95 percent of which are drawn from the authors’ personal case files – create a realistic context for the scientific insights presented in the book. Moreover, these features ensure that readers do not lose sight of the fact that real individuals are at the heart of the DSM-IV-TR criteria, the theories, and the research.
