About The Author

Jan W. Simek

Jan W. Simek

Dr. Jan Simek began lab work in synthesizing natural products that turned into research in hop extracts for the Kalamazoo Spice Extraction Company. After getting a master’s degree from Stanford University, Dr. Simek worked in the pharmaceutical industry, synthesizing compounds designed to control diabetes and atherosclerosis and assisting in isolating anti-cancer antibiotics from natural sources. Returning to Stanford University, Dr. Simek completed his Ph.D. with the legendary Professor Carl Djerassi, who developed the first synthesis of steroidal oral contraceptives.

Dr. Simek’s 35-year teaching career was spent primarily at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where he received the university’s Distinguished Teaching Award. Other teaching experiences include Albion College, the University of Colorado at Boulder, Kalamazoo College, and the University of California at Berkeley. In addition to his pharmaceutical research, he has industrial experience investigating dyes, surfactants, and liquid crystals, and he continues to consult for the biotechnology industry.

Nash, and Frank H. Westheimer. After completing his Ph.D. at Harvard in 1974, Dr. Wade joined the chemistry faculty at Colorado State University.

Over fifteen years at Colorado State, Dr. Wade taught organic chemistry to thousands of students working toward careers in all areas of biology, chemistry, human medicine, veterinary medicine, and environmental studies. He also authored research papers in organic synthesis and chemical education and eleven books reviewing current research in organic synthesis.

For programs in Organic Chemistry (2-Semester) A Student-Centered Approach to Learning and Studying Organic Chemistry Wade & Simek’s Organic Chemistry, Ninth Global Edition, (PDF) presents important ideas of natural chemistry within the context of elementary reasoning and drawback-fixing. Authored to enrich how college students use a textbook right this moment, new Partially Solved Problems, Visual Reaction Guides, Problem-Solving Strategies, and Reaction Starbursts encourage college students to make use of the textbook earlier than class as a main introduction to natural chemistry in addition to a complete research software for working issues and/or getting ready for exams. With unparalleled and extremely refined pedagogy, this 9th Global Edition offers college students a recent overview of natural ideas and the instruments for organizing and understanding response mechanisms and artificial natural chemistry. 978-1292151106, 978-0321971371 NOTE: This product only contains the Organic Chemistry 9th Global Edition in PDF.
