About The Author
Barbara Trenholm
Dr. Barbara Trenholm is a retired University of New Brunswick (UNB) professor. She is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D), as well as a Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) New Brunswick FCPA and FCA. Dr. Trenholm currently serves on the board of trustees of Plaza Retail REIT and the board of directors of New Brunswick Power.
She has served on the boards of Atomic Energy Canada Limited (AECL) and CPA Canada in the past (formerly the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants). Barbara is also a former president of CPA New Brunswick (previously the New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants) and a former acting dean of UNB's Faculty of Business Administration. She has also served on a number of international, national, regional, and local boards and committees as chair or member.
Donald E. Kieso
Professor Donald E. Kieso, Ph.D., C.P.A., received his bachelor's degree from Aurora University and his doctorate in accounting from the University of Illinois. Kieso has served as chairman of the Department of Accountancy and is currently the KPMG Peat Marwick Emeritus Professor of Accounting at Northern Illinois University. Dr. Kieso has public accounting experience with Arthur Andersen & Co. (Chicago) and Price Waterhouse & Co. (San Francisco and Chicago) and research experience with the Research Division of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (New York). He has done postdoctorate work as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California at Berkeley and is a recipient of NIU's Teaching Excellence Award and 4 Golden Apple Teaching Awards. Donald is the author of many accounting and business books and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Accounting Association, and the Illinois CPA Society. He has served as a member of the AACSB's Accounting Accreditation Committees, the Board of Directors of the Illinois CPA Society, the State of Illinois Comptroller's Commission, as Secretary-Treasured of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy, and as Secretary-Treasurer of the American Accounting Association. Dr. Kieso also served as a charter member of the national Accounting Education Change Commission. He is the recipient of the FSA's Joseph A. Silvoso Award of Merit, the Outstanding Accounting Educator Award from the Illinois CPA Society, and the NIU Foundation's Humanitarian Award for Service to Higher Education.
Jerry J. Weygandt
Dr. Jerry J. Weygandt, PhD, CPA, is Arthur Andersen Alumni Professor of Accounting at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He holds a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Illinois. Articles by Jerry have appeared in the Accounting Review, Accounting Horizons, Journal of Accountancy, Journal of Accounting Research, and other academic and professional journals. These articles have examined such financial reporting issues as convertible securities, accounting for price-level adjustments, pensions, stock option contracts, and interim reports. Dr. Jerry is author of other accounting and financial reporting books and is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Wisconsin Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has served on numerous committees of the American Accounting Association and as a member of the editorial board of the Accounting Review; he also has served as President and Secretary-Treasurer of the American Accounting Association. Jerry is the recipient of the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs Outstanding Educator's Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2001 he received the American Accounting Association's Outstanding Accounting Educator Award.
Paul D. Kimmel
Dr. Paul D. Kimmel, CPA, PhD, received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota and his doctorate in accounting from the University of Wisconsin. Paul is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and has public accounting experience with Deloitte & Touche (Minneapolis).
Dr. Kimmel was the recipient of the UWM School of Business Advisory Council Teaching Award and the Reggie Taite Excellence in Teaching Award and is a 3-time winner of the Outstanding Teaching Assisting Award at the University of Wisconsin. He is also a recipient of the Elijah Watts Sells Award for Honorary Distinction for his results on the CPA exam. He has published numerous articles in Accounting Horizons, Accounting Review, Managerial Finance, Advances in Management Accounting, Journal of Accounting Education, Issues in Accounting Education, as well as other journals.
Paul's research interests include accounting for financial instruments and innovation in accounting education. He has published papers and given many talks on incorporating critical thinking into accounting education and helped prepare a catalog of critical thinking resources for the Federated Schools of Accountancy.
Wayne Irvine
Professor Wayne Irvine teaches accounting as a senior teacher. From 1992 to 1995, he was a full-time instructor at the Haskayne School of Business, and in January 2007, he returned to the faculty full-time.
Wayne graduated from the University of Calgary with a BComm in 1980 and went on to earn his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1983, his FCA/FCPA designation in 2018, and his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charter in 2004. He spent 12 years at Price Waterhouse, where he worked in the audit department, as an audit senior manager, and as the administrator of the Calgary office's continuing education and UFE training program.
Professor Irvine teaches undergraduate and doctoral students in financial management and auditing. He also teaches financial literacy and director education courses for our executive education department.
Wayne is currently the co-author of Canada's most commonly used introductory accounting textbook and has previously written a number of professional exam cases.
He's also co-authored the Canadian version of a US accounting textbook and secured support from the Royal Bank to create an Internet-based accounting course.
Wayne has earned several teaching awards from the University of Calgary Student Union, his Dean, Haskayne student clubs, the CPA Education Foundation, and the CPA Western School of Business, to name a few.
