Dr. Troy Day received his M.S. in biology from the University of British Columbia and his Ph.D. in mathematics from Queen's University. His first academic position was at the University of Toronto, before being recruited back to Queen's University as a Canada Research Chair in Mathematical Biology. Dr. Troy is currently a Professor of Maths and Stats and a Professor of Biology. His research group works in areas ranging from applied mathematics to experimental biology. Troy Day is also coauthor of the widely used ebook A Biologist'S Guide To Mathematical Modeling, published by Princeton University Press in 2007.

The key purpose on this textbook is to point out school college students how calculus associates to biology, with a mode that sustains rigor with out being overly formal. Biocalculus: Calculus for Life Sciences, (PDF) encourages and illustrates the matters of calculus with examples drawn from a number of areas of biology, together with genetics, biomechanics, drugs, physiology, ecology, pharmacology, epidemiology, and evolution, to call a number of. Special consideration has been paid to making sure that each one functions of arithmetic are real, and references to the essential organic literature for many of those have been offered in order that instructors and college students can discover the functions in higher depth. However, the main focus is on the interface between arithmetic and the life sciences, the logical construction of the ebook is motivated by the mathematical materials. Students will come away from a course based mostly on this ebook with a robust data of arithmetic and an understanding of the significance of mathematical arguments. Equally important, they will even come away with a transparent understanding of how these mathematical strategies and ideas are central within the life sciences. P.S.
